Lower Brule Sioux Tribe Code Talkers Bronze Medal – 3 Inch

This bronze replica medal, measuring 3 inches in diameter, honors the Native American Code Talkers of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, who made vital contributions to secure U.S. military communications during World War I. It is a larger duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to the tribe in recognition of their courage, innovation, and service.

Created under the Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008, these medals commemorate the Native American Code Talkers whose unbreakable codes gave the U.S. military a decisive advantage in combat, ensuring that critical communications could not be intercepted by enemy forces.

Obverse (Heads): Features World War I soldiers, including a Code Talker transmitting and recording information. Behind them, a warrior holds an eagle staff. Inscriptions include “KUL WICASA” and “SICANGU LAKOTA” (tribal identifiers), “HECETU YELO” (a Lakota phrase signaling the end of a speech), and “CODE TALKERS.”

Reverse (Tails): Displays elements of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribal Seal with inscriptions “LOWER BRULE SIOUX TRIBE,” “2008 ACT OF CONGRESS,” and “WWI.”

Designers & Sculptors:

Obverse: Craig A. Campbell, Medallic Artist

Reverse: Designed by Joseph Menna, Chief Engraver; Sculpted by Darla Jackson, Medallic Artist

This medal is a meaningful tribute to the bravery and legacy of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe Code Talkers, whose language and service helped secure victory in World War I.
