8 Reales Silver Coin – Mexico 1768 – NGC XF Condition
Few coins reflect the heartbeat of colonial commerce like the Mexican 8 Reales. Struck in 1768 at the Mexico City Mint—epicenter of the Spanish Empire’s silver wealth—this large “piece of eight” circulated across Europe, Asia, and the Americas as the world’s first global trade currency.
Certified XF by NGC, this example still displays crisp detail across the shield and pillars, with the light, honest circulation expected of a coin that truly traveled the trade winds. Minted from high-purity Mexican silver, it represents both the power of New Spain and the reach of its economy.
