The $5 Indian Head gold coin, officially known as the Indian Head Half Eagle, was minted by the United States from 1908 to 1929. This coin is unique because of its incuse design, where the images and inscriptions are sunken into the surface rather than raised. It was designed by sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt, and it features a Native American chief in a full headdress on the obverse (front) and an eagle on the reverse (back).
