The $2.5 Indian Head Gold Coin, also known as the Quarter Eagle, was produced by the United States Mint from 1908 to 1929. It was part of a series that also included a $5 gold piece, both designed by sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt. These coins are unique in U.S. coinage because of their incuse (recessed) design, where the features are sunken into the surface rather than raised, which was a departure from the traditional relief used in most coinage.
- Composition: 90% gold, 10% copper
- Weight: 4.18 grams
- Diameter: 18 mm
- Design: The obverse features a Native American chief in full headdress, while the reverse showcases a bald eagle standing on a bundle of arrows and an olive branch.
