The $10 Liberty Gold Coin, also known as the Liberty Head Eagle, is a U.S. gold coin that was minted from 1838 to 1907. It was designed by Christian Gobrecht, and its face value is $10. The coin contains 0.48375 ounces of pure gold and weighs approximately 16.718 grams. It is composed of 90% gold and 10% copper, which was standard for U.S. gold coins of that era to make them more durable.

  • Obverse (Front): Features Lady Liberty wearing a coronet or crown inscribed with the word 'LIBERTY.' Her hair is tied in a bun, and she is surrounded by 13 stars, representing the original 13 colonies.
  • Reverse (Back): Shows a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast, clutching arrows and an olive branch. Above the eagle are the words 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,' and the denomination 'TEN D.' is below.
  • No Motto (1838–1866): Early versions of the coin lacked the motto 'In God We Trust.'
  • With Motto (1866–1907): Starting in 1866, coins featured the motto 'In God We Trust' on the reverse, above the eagle's head.
